The Final Episode - Legend Of The Seeker

Posted by Plamen Dimitrov , Tuesday, May 25, 2010 1:15 PM

I just witnessed the most beautiful scene of a motion picture in the World. Kahlan killed Richard and what Richard said before he died, and the way he said it, gave me that inexplicably satisfying feeling of fantasy. And a quick thought came to my mind. HOW CAN SOMEONE CANCEL THIS SHOW? Watch idiots swap their girlfriends and boyfriends on One Three Hill (7 FU**ING seasons), watch rich kids and their problems in the OC (4 seasons of pure c**p), not to begin with c***py sitcoms. Yeah, why watch how tears turn to magic stones and love reigns over evil, when there's another medical drama on . It's not like there aren't a few thousand of those. And it's got 3 seasons. WHAT THE F**K?! All you Americans, who prefer this over Legend Of The Seeker, enjoy being second to Europe... in everything. And I hope someone takes control over cool TV shows now that the World doesn't like you anymore.

Why is love not enough?

As we grow up and become adults, many things change. OK, so why are there hormones that make us want to have sex and why do they have such enormous impact on our lives? If romantic love is what keeps a couple together to raise a child, and if it is the best form of interaction two human beings can be a part of, why does sexual desire exist? Answer: Instincts of living creatures serving the most important purpose of all – to continue the existence of our race. The more you f**k, the more children are likely to appear.

I wish there were a button that temporarily turns off this sexual desire. I bet the rate of spiritual and intellectual growth will increase twice or more then.

Nomads

It is how we are programmed. We stay at some place for too long, and we start feeling a little unhappy. The longer we stay, the more unhappy we become. Hunters and Gatherers were nomads. They lived in the Golden Age of human history and they were, as it is believed, the happiest people ever to walk the Earth. Changing locations leads to new experiences, which stay in our memory, giving us the impression of living a productive life. Thus, we become happier.

To stay somewhere for, let's say, eighteen years, is to learn how to ignore strong feelings. I don't know since when people live at one place for their whole lives, but this definitely made us an unhappy race of creatures.

Is there a God?

Posted by Plamen Dimitrov , Friday, May 21, 2010 11:48 AM

No matter what amount of knowledge we posses, there's nothing we can do to completely exclude the possibility of a superior creature creating life. I'm going to try, though.

If there is a God, he had been created along with everything else after the Big Bang. Yes, or if you suggest the opposite, then how did someone create everything out of nothing, and how the hell this someone even existed when nothing else existed? Even if God is a force and not something constructed of chemical elements, he still has to somehow interact with the material in order to create things. You can guess where this is going. The Universe was not created by a God, because it is made of everything that is and will be. God, especially if some form of thinking creature, must be a part of the Universe. So, there it is - God was made during the Planck epoch, together with the first particles.

This makes God something like us. A part of the cold black cosmos. So he found a way to make elements heavier and thus, he made us. Found the perfect planet, put water on its red inhospitable surface, and boom! Oh wait a minute... He made a few billion creatures first that had nothing to do with us. He started with little organisms to see how that life thing would go. Apparently he wasn't very pleased, because he bombed the planet several times and killed most of its population. Then we appeared – another stage of evolution, probably not the highest... And we just had to find something to blame for our existence.

Every single society throughout the human history follows some form of religion. From hunters and gatherers to Wall Street brokers, people need something to unify them. Read sociology books on this subject, and you'll understand.

HOWEVER, there are several things that must be pointed out. Like the lack of answers to most of the big questions. What triggered the Big Bang? Is life following some sort of pattern or is it completely random - just several events that led to our appearance? Those are questions we won't be able to answer for a really long time. Or never. So... I'm not saying there is a God..., but there might be something. In fact, who knows, maybe there are infinite number of Universes and dimensions. How about that, ah? Does God seem big next to that?

Home, sweet home

Just ate 250g of candy.
There's no job in my town.
There's no theater.
No bands come.
There's no good source of entertainment.
You think this is somehow compensated by warm people who stay together all the time and have fun?
NO!
People here are colder than in a big city.
They're unhappy.
They're really boring.
I hate my hometown and, with all my heart, hope it burns. The good thing, the thing that helps me breath, is the fact that the mine this town has been relying on for hundreds of years, will soon have no more copper in it. By 2020 no people will stay here and FINALLY the place will die. A more spectacular ending would be of bigger interest to me, though. Something that involves everyone dying a painful death.

Writing is hard

Posted by Plamen Dimitrov 2:51 AM

When there's a whole in my story that I can not see, I feel something is going wrong. I continue writing, but it doesn't go well. It took me 3 years to realize how hard it actually is to write a book. It turned out, to become a good writer is not only about talent, but also about hard work. Several times I abandoned stories at the beginning, because I was not able to detect what was wrong about them. It's different with my last story. I somehow managed to fix a major hole. One of my characters did not belong to the story at all. She was a strong queen, hiding her true identity, in order to take care of a prince, whom she must protect. The problem was that in the time this character appeared in the story, the atmosphere was rather humorous. She, on the other hand, was dark. When I changed her, everything became exactly what I wanted it to be.
Now, just as I finished the last chapter, I felt another thing is going wrong. No characters, for sure, I've checked a few times for this. Must be a scene. I feel helpless, as it is hard for me to see it. The more I write, the more this feeling of something being wrong gets stronger. So, should I stop for a while? Probably yes.
Although, this might be due to the fact that I've never read a story like this before and therefore don't know how it should go. No one to ask for advice, it's now 16 000 words. Who would find time to read it?

Inspiration

Posted by Plamen Dimitrov , Wednesday, May 19, 2010 12:50 AM

Writing a book is very tough. The main problem is that you can not control your inspiration. You can provoke it sometimes, but unless it comes by itself, it just won't work properly. Inspiration, from my personal observations, comes after a good dream or if the morning is nice and peaceful.

My best time for writing is early in the morning, though sometimes late at night is better, depends on the scene I'm currently working on. I'm not professional, nor experienced, so this is not an advice, I'm just sharing. It's very nice to start working on your story as early as possible, before the annoying repetitive activities of the day start. Nice non-dynamic scenes are easiest in the morning, and so are dynamic scenes. Late at night is very good for dark scenes.

The book I'm trying to write is planned to be an 80 000-word epic fantasy story. By far, I've only got 12 000 and this is somehow discouraging. When I started, I was really excited about it, so the first six thousand were completed in just two days. Lately, because of the lack of inspiration, it is hard to write a thousand words a day. I'm planning on doing a marathon. Just sit in the morning and stop only to eat and take a shower, and then go to bed when I get exhausted. This, as I've tried it a few times before, will either bring my inspiration back, or quite the opposite.

Legend Of The Seeker canceled

Posted by Plamen Dimitrov , Monday, May 17, 2010 5:23 AM

Legend Of The Seeker has been canceled? I love this show. I don’t know what television is like in the US but from what I see, networks care only about money, and don’t give a f**k about what people want to watch. Is there an alternative to Legend Of The Seeker? Another entertaining fantasy show with such great cast, good special effects and breathtaking storyline? No, there isn’t. In fact, I don’t believe a fantasy show has ever been so entertaining. Sure there are some holes in the story but there’s nothing about the show that can not be fixed. Lost was cool at first and then became boring. They didn’t cancel Lost…. (Not that it’s a similar case.) Or just people who prefer epic fantasy are not enough to pay the network back the money for making a series. No, no, no, no. If this is true, then I believe we’re in trouble. Fantasy has always been the highest form of art. Nations who don’t realize this are usually miserable. Being rational makes you dumb. In the county I live in (not MY country, because, frankly, I have absolutely nothing to do with it), people think fantasy is useless and just made to entertain little kids. Bulgarian is among the poorest nations in Europe with almost no internationally known art. There are no writers, no publishers, no books. No shows, no movies. With the exception of 1 movie that, surprisingly, could not return the 1,5 million used for its making.

Back to Legend Of The Seeker. Are people in the US like Bulgarians? They think fantasy is not good enough? Or they’re going to use that financial crisis bullshit again. We don’t have money to make fire come out of Zedd’s hands, or Kahlan’s eyes can no longer turn spooky black. I’m tired of idiots in black suits sitting in their shiny offices, deciding whether I will have the chance to watch another episode of my favorite show or not.

2012 – the end of all things

Posted by Plamen Dimitrov 5:22 AM

Are we all going to die in 2012? NO! That’s bullshit. If there were a way to predict such things, the method would have been a bit harder to figure, don’t you think?

There is no way someone can predict a future event, except when it’s obvious that this event will take place. You can predict that the guy, who just jumped from the roof of a high building, will die. Now that we see how stupid the humanity is and how we can’t manage to preserve our own environment, we can predict that mankind will soon extinct. WE can, not the guys who killed hundreds and took the hearts out of their chests to please their Gods.

No more plastic bottles!

Posted by Plamen Dimitrov 5:20 AM

Every plastic bottle we use and throw away, will disappear from our planet in 500 years. Although plastic, being used for almost everything, is important to us and we can not remove it from our lives completely, we can easily reduce the amount of plastic we use for everyday needs. To begin with, STOP using plastic bottles.

Water is completely free. When you buy a bottle from the shop, you actually pay for the transportation, you cover the expenses of the company, give a little for rich guys in suits, and of course, you pay for the plastic container. Why? You have an unlimited supply of water in your house. Why not just find a way to take it with you at work or at school? There is a way – aluminum bottles.

Last week I ordered my first Sigg bottle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigg) for only 20$. If it doesn’t break or something, I’ll save that money for a month by not using plastic bottles.

Sigg have very nice designs and they do not change the taste of the water like plastic bottles do. You can choose from 0,3L, 0,4L, 0,6L, 1.0L, 1.5L. There are several alternatives, depending on your location. Cheeki bottles, for example – http://www.cheeki.net.au/cheeki-bottles-about-us.htm, are also good and even a bit cheaper.

When you choose, you must be sure that your bottle is BPA free. I don’t know exactly why, but BPA is bad for your health (plastic bottles are full of it). It is believed it causes cancer. Anyway, just don’t buy a bottle made in China.

Save money, save the planet, take care of your health!

The meaning of life

Posted by Plamen Dimitrov 5:09 AM

Are you afraid of death? There’s no reason to, because, technically, you’re already dead at some point of the future. This point already exist, as spacetime moves forward and, as far as we know, it doesn’t go back. (Like in that Braid game, if you’ve played it.) That’s kind of a good example… Imagine yourself watching an object fall to the ground. The object moves forward in both space and time, along with the chemical elements in your brain (you ‘realize’ the object is somehow moving), the muscle tissue of your heart (you continue being alive), the Earth, and the Universe. Humans are just complicated containers of matter and go forward in spacetime in pretty much the same way soulless asteroids do.
