Writing is hard

When there's a whole in my story that I can not see, I feel something is going wrong. I continue writing, but it doesn't go well. It took me 3 years to realize how hard it actually is to write a book. It turned out, to become a good writer is not only about talent, but also about hard work. Several times I abandoned stories at the beginning, because I was not able to detect what was wrong about them. It's different with my last story. I somehow managed to fix a major hole. One of my characters did not belong to the story at all. She was a strong queen, hiding her true identity, in order to take care of a prince, whom she must protect. The problem was that in the time this character appeared in the story, the atmosphere was rather humorous. She, on the other hand, was dark. When I changed her, everything became exactly what I wanted it to be.
Now, just as I finished the last chapter, I felt another thing is going wrong. No characters, for sure, I've checked a few times for this. Must be a scene. I feel helpless, as it is hard for me to see it. The more I write, the more this feeling of something being wrong gets stronger. So, should I stop for a while? Probably yes.
Although, this might be due to the fact that I've never read a story like this before and therefore don't know how it should go. No one to ask for advice, it's now 16 000 words. Who would find time to read it?
